For this 10-week project, we were tasked with designing a medical device for an animal of our choice. Given my Equestrian background, I focused on a problem that the sport has faced for a long time; horses experiencing back pain from being ridden and the inability to diagnose the issue without a veterinarian at hand. By having poor saddle fit that results in uneven weight distribution over the horse’s back as one of the biggest culprits, manta is a saddle pad that aims to locate the source of pressure on the back while the horse is in motion.
